I was formerly a member, and a very comfortable one, of Mansfield's Central United Methodist Church which as you may know closed its doors a few years ago. It was far from fundamentalist, for example two of the men who were most active in church affairs never mentioned, but everyone knew, were gay. Now I'm attending another UMC which, though a loving group of people, leans sharply right (some, at least). I can't accept the idea that the Bible is the unerring word of God; I believe I can be a better Christian without worshipping who I think is described as a cruel God.
