<description>This morning, during the Adult Religious Education program &quot;Renewal&quot;, we viewed a brief video about the devastating practice of mountaintop removal. This practice is currently being used to access coal in Appalachia. It uses dynamite to literally blast off the tops of mountains in large areas of West Virginia, Kentucky, and other states. During the class, there was pretty extensive discussion about ways that we can respond to this issue both as individuals and as a congregation. There is a great resource for those who wish to learn more or take action. Go to http://www.ilovemountains.org/ At this site, you can view, using Google Earth, some satellite pictures of the extent of this type of mining. There are stories from the people directly affected by mountaintop removal. You can also find out which mountaintop removal mines are supplying coal for your electric utility. Finally you can take action to change public policy regarding mountaintop removal.
